Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (April 28, 2011) - The Philadelphia Soul will be shutting down the 16th and 17th block of Market Street in Center City on Thursday, May 5 from noon to 1 p.m. to hold the first ever professional sports team practice on the streets of Philadelphia. The 'walkthrough' practice is open to the public and will be the last practice prior to the Soul's home game on Friday, May 6 at the Wells Fargo Center, with kickoff at 7:05 p.m. (EST).
"This is a unique opportunity for our fans and the entire city to see the Soul live, and what better place to do it then in the heart of Philadelphia," said Soul Co-Majority Owner Ron Jaworski. "We'd like to thank Mayor Nutter and the city for allowing us to host this event, and we are inviting all of the city's hard-working people to take their lunch break on the 5th with the Philadelphia Soul."
Also in attendance will be Soul mascot, SoulMan, the Soulmates dance team, and the Soul's public address announcer, Vinnie 'The Crumb'. Post-practice, players and Soulmates will be available to sign autographs for those in attendance.
"In my 24 years of Arena Football, I have never heard of something as dynamic as this happening before," said Soul head coach Mike Hohensee. "It is an exciting opportunity for the people of Philadelphia to get a look at this team like they have never seen them before. Something like this can help feed a team's energy and get us pumped up."
The Soul will be preparing for their second home game of the season, which will take place the following evening against the Jacksonville Sharks (5-1). It will be Faith & Family Night at the Wells Fargo Center, with faith-based rock bands, 'Fairwarning' and 'Freddie Fish & the Loaves', performing prior to the game, beginning at 5 p.m. After the game, fans are invited to attend the Post Game Message of Encouragement with the Philadelphia Soul Chaplin.
Special group rates are available for Faith-based organizations interested in attending the game. For more information or to book your group tickets, call a Soul Sales Representative 215-253-4900, ext. 3.
