Rashad Barksdale Joins the Command

April 28, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Kansas City Command News Release

Former KC Chief Rashad Barksdale has joined the city's Arena Football team, COMMAND Head Coach Danton Barto announced today. A cornerback with a reputation for making plays, Barksdale has practiced with the team this week and is expected to immediately step into the starting lineup in Friday night's game against the Dallas Vigilantes.

"He's everything we thought he'd be," said Barto. "He's had a great week of practice and we're excited to see what he can do in game action."

Barksdale was a 6th round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007. He came up just short of making their roster coming out of training camp but was signed by the Chiefs. He appeared in six games for Kansas City in 2007, making a total of eight tackles.

He has also been a member of the Giants, Jets, and most recently the Arizona Cardinals where he competed for a roster spot in training camp last fall.

"Rashad's got a lot of athletic ability," said Barto. "You can see why he was a 6th round pick."

He stands to take the field against the Dallas Vigilantes, which defeated the COMMAND in the franchise's first game at the beginning of the 2011 season. Barksdale played at the University of Albany in New York. He played football in his senior year only after starting his college athletic career on the baseball diamond.

Kickoff for this week's game on Friday is set for 7:30 pm.
