Soul Retake No. 2 as SaberCats Remain Atop Latest AFL Power Rankings

June 30, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

LAS VEGAS - After locking up their fourth straight trip to the playoffs and third East Division crown in the last four years, the Philadelphia Soul (12-2) reclaimed the No. 2 spot in the latest AFL Power Rankings. Philadelphia knocked off the Tampa Bay Storm, 64-42, en route to clinching one of the top two seeds in the American Conference playoff bracket. Following the AFL's universal bye in Week 15, the Soul will return to the field to host last year's conference champs, the Cleveland Gladiators (7-7), next Saturday on CBS Sports Network.

The San Jose SaberCats (13-1) remained in the top spot of the latest Power Rankings after completing a season sweep of the Spokane Shock (4-9) last week. The SaberCats, who have steamrolled through the first three quarters of their schedule, outscored Spokane 200-81 in three meetings this year. The top seed in the National Conference will return home in Week 16 to host the New Orleans VooDoo (2-11) on Friday, July 10.

San Jose's greatest rival, the three-time defending ArenaBowl champion Arizona Rattlers (11-2) snuck out of Anaheim with a 49-43 victory over the LA KISS (2-11) in Week 14. Despite riding a seven-game winning streak and clinching their fifth straight West Division title, last week's victory was not enough to edge Philadelphia for the No. 2 spot in the Power Rankings. Arizona will look to make a statement when they return to the field in Week 16 for the rubber match with the Las Vegas Outlaws (5-8) from the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, July 11.

The Jacksonville Sharks (7-6) made a statement of their own in Week 14, dismantling the Cleveland Gladiators, 74-41, to move up to No. 4 in the latest AFL Power Rankings. With one of the most talented lineups in Arena Football, Jacksonville has the roster to be extremely dangerous down the stretch and into the postseason. The Sharks will attempt to close the gap on the South Division-leading Orlando Predators (8-6) next week when they travel to Portland for the first time ever to meet the 3-10 Thunder on Saturday, July 11.

Meanwhile, Orlando will attempt to do its part to secure a second consecutive South Division title for the City Beautiful. Coming off a 56-43 win over the New Orleans VooDoo in Week 14, the fifth-ranked Predators matchup with the Tampa Bay Storm (6-7) in the storied "War on I-4" next weekend. Orlando holds a 25-23 regular season edge over the Storm in the series.

The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on ArenaFootball.com using a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. This week's complete AFL Power Rankings are listed below.
