Philadelphia Soul News Release
D'ORAZIO NAMED QUARTERBACK OF THE YEAR
Soul QB Matt D'Orazio was named AFL Champs Quarterback of the Year, as voted by AFL coaches, players, fans, and the AFL Writers Association. He ended the regular season as the highest rated passer (131.3) and with the highest completion percentage (72.4). D'Orazio threw from 3,331 for 72 touchdowns, with only four interceptions. He led the quarterbacks in rushing with 227 yards, the Soul's single season record.
JAWS HEADS BACK TO NEW ORLEANS FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP
Soul President Ron Jaworski gets another shot for a championship in New Orleans. Jaws played with the Eagles in Super Bowl XV against the Raiders in 1981 and was defeated 27-10 at the Superdome. He is now leading the Soul down to New Orleans in hopes of a different outcome. Last time he was just a player, now he's the one calling the shots.
SAN JOSE WIDE RECEIVER OUT FOR ARENABOWL
The San Jose SaberCats will be heading to New Orleans without their top wide receiver James Roe. The franchise's career leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions will miss the game due to a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee which he suffered during the divisional game against Colorado.
WHAT'S UP TODAY
The team received treatments today and are recuperating from owner Jon Bon Jovi's concert last night. The team traveled to Madison Square Garden to present their owner with the National Conference trophy during his concert, which was Bon Jovi's last stop on the Lost Highway Tour.
HE SAID IT
In an AP article released today, Soul owner Jon Bon Jovi spoke about the growth of the team and going to a championship, "It's really rewarding. We're proud of the whole organization. We've built a team of character. Coach (Bret) Munsey has been everything that we've hoped for. Fingers crossed, one more to go."
AROUND THE LEAGUE

Pettis led the AFL with four Ironman of the Week selections, one Ironman of the Month award and became the third player in the AFL to receive the award in two consecutive seasons. He finished the season with 95 receptions and 25 touchdowns. He also tallied 22.5 tackles and two interceptions.
