July 16, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - Philadelphia Soul QB MATT D'ORAZIO (6-4, 230, Otterbein) was selected as the 2008 Champs Sports Quarterback of the Year as voted by AFL head coaches, fans, players and the Arena Football League Writers Association, the League announced today.
D'Orazio led the AFL in passer rating (131.3), completion percentage (72.4), touchdown-to-interception ratio (18.0) and lowest percentage of passes intercepted (1.0). He was the only quarterback to throw for more than 70 touchdowns with less than five interceptions.
D'Orazio, who earned All-Arena First Team honors three weeks ago for the first time in his five-year AFL career, stepped in for injured QB TONY GRAZIANI in Week 3 and helped lead the Soul to a League-best 13-3 regular-season record while posting an 8-3 record in 11 starts.
Philadelphia set franchise highs in regular season wins (13), consecutive games won in a season (9) while capturing the teams first Mitsubishi Motors Eastern Division title and No. 1 overall seed in the National Conference playoffs.
