June 7, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul were recently selected as a 2007 Turnkey PRISM Award Honorable Mention in the Major League category for Fan Development. After reviewing applications from professional sports teams nationwide, the Soul were honored on the basis of exemplary customer relationships. Industry experts on the judging panel also commended the Soul on their performance in the categories of Community Relations and Customer Service.
One of the main promotional initiatives impressing the panel of judges was the Soul Summer Slam, held annually in Wildwood, NJ. Summer Slam, hosted on the beach at Schellenger Avenue, is an exciting event that enables fans from across the area to enjoy performances by the Soulmates dance team, greetings by Soul coaches and players, inflatable rides for kids, food, a beverage garden and much more.
Loyalty between the fans and the organization is an important part to keeping the organization so successful. Events such as VIP luncheons, bowling parties and post-season parties for season ticket holders allow fans to meet players, Soulmates and staff. The VIP luncheon, held especially for season ticket holders who purchase tickets within the first four rows of the arena, provides an opportunity to ask head coach Bret Munsey and general manager Rich Lisk about previous and future seasons.
In another effort to keep a strong relationship between the Soul organization and their fans, the team website was reconstructed to provide viewers with more information about the team, schedule, staff and upcoming events or promotions.
The Soul's customer service team keeps in constant contact with customers using an integrated ticket system. Using the ticket system, account executives are able to know the history of each customer, which allows them to offer more extensive assistance when purchasing tickets and answering questions. Personally responsible for an average of 400 season ticket accounts, they use the system to contact customers monthly, by way of e-mail, telephone, or by visiting them at games to keep them updated with information.
The Soul organization is heavily involved in giving back to the community with the help of The Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation. Founded in 2006 by co-majority owners Jon Bon Jovi and Craig A. Spencer, The Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation focuses on developing partnerships and programs as well as providing grants to help improve the quality of life for impoverished and homeless individuals and families. The Foundation is now working to provide 15 affordable, quality homes to first-time homebuyers in North Central Philadelphia.
Another aspect of the Soul's community relations is appearances at community events. Former Soul player and current Team Ambassador, Keita Crespina, along with Soul players and Soulmates attend the events throughout the year at churches, schools and other locations allowing fans to personal interact with the organization.
The PRISM AWARDS (Professionalism Results and Innovation in Sport Management) are awarded annually to professional sport franchises that demonstrate industry-leading excellence and innovation in sport franchise management across five key business aspects. Two PRISM AWARDS are presented annually - one to the major league team and one to the minor league team that best exemplify the PRISM ideals across five criteria: Strategic planning, innovative marketing, community relations, customer service and employee relations. The 2007 Turnkey PRISM Award winners were the Phoenix Suns, in the Major League category, and the Dayton Dragons, in the Minor League category.
Summer Slam for the 2007 season will be on Saturday, August 11 on the beach at Schellenger Avenue Wildwood, NJ, where a band will perform live followed by a series of 7-7 flag football tournaments. Similar to the previous years additional activities for fans to enjoy will be held throughout the day.
