PHILADELPHIA (June 14, 2011) - Philadelphia Soul head coach Mike Hohensee announced that Brandon Kirsch will be the starter for this week's game against the Tulsa Talons (5-7) at Wells Fargo Center on Friday, June 17 at 7:05 p.m. Kirsch takes over starting duties from fourth-year veteran Ryan Vena.
"We brought Brandon here to help give us a lift on offense and this week he will get his shot," said Hohensee. "The advantage that he brings is his familiarity with the system, having played under a similar system in Colorado. Hopefully he can help us as we make a push for the postseason."
The Soul (5-8) are coming off a 75-54 loss to Spokane, but remain two and a half games behind Pittsburgh (7-5) and Cleveland (7-5) in the Eastern Division. Philadelphia has four of its last five remaining games at home, including rematches with both Cleveland and Pittsburgh to be played at the Wells Fargo Center.
Kirsch last played in the Arena Football League for the Colorado Crush in 2007-08, where he completed 12-of-21 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns as the back-up to two-time ArenaBowl champion quarterback, John Dutton.
The former Boilermaker completed 292-of-489 passes (59.7%) for 3,532 yards and 23 touchdowns in his four-year collegiate career spanning from 2002-05. Kirsch also added 757 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Kirsch is a graduate of Cedar Crest High School, located in his hometown of Lebanon, PA, where he played football, baseball, and basketball.
