Command Names Stephen Wasil Starting Quarterback

Kansas City Command News Release

KANSAS CITY (June 14, 2011) - Kansas City COMMAND Head Coach Danton Barto announced this week that Steve Wasil will be starting quarterback for the team's game against the Cleveland Gladiators on Sunday.

"Our offense has been struggling", said Coach Barto. "We feel that a change in QB right now should help the offense be more productive and give a lift to the whole team."

Kansas City's Arena Football team is coming off back-to-back losses by large margins. In week 13, the team suffered a 30-58 loss to their Central Division rival the Chicago Storm (9-3). Last week, the COMMAND fell by 20 points, 34-54, to the Milwaukee Mustangs (4-8) who are at the bottom of the Eastern Division. With this change in offensive leadership, Coach Barto hopes to recover some of the team's lost momentum.

This week, the COMMAND will be facing the team that is currently leading the Central Division, the Cleveland Gladiators (7-5). Wasil will be stepping up against Cleveland's quarterback Kurt Rocco who has 2438 passing yards for the season with 43 touchdowns.

So far this season Wasil has only seen action in one game; the last few plays of the COMMAND's loss to the Rush. In 2010 Steve Wasil cut his teeth in the AF2's Alabama Vipers where he earned a QB rating of 63.81 with two touchdown passes and one rushing TD off a quarterback keeper.

His record at Albion College was stellar; Wasil holds or has previously held all-time records for Most Passing Yards in a Game (412), Most Passing Yards in a Season (3313), and Most Touchdowns in a Season (33). In 2005 he led the Britons to a MIAA championship and was named the league Most Valuable Offensive Player.

Wasil also served on the Albion coaching staff in 2006, and is a graduate of the Detroit Central Catholic High School.
