Chicago Soul FC News Release

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Chicago Soul goalkeeper Jeff Richey has been named the league's Player of the Week for the 10th week of the 2012-13 season. Richey set a MISL record with 45 saves on Friday night, recording the first shutout in the league since 2011 as the Soul defeated the Syracuse Silver Knights 11-0 at the Sears Centre Arena.

Richey sets league record with 45 saves against Syracuse.

Richey broke the previous record in the league's current era, held by Jamie Lieberman of the Norfolk SharX with 38 last season against Syracuse, as he kept the Soul in the game for much of the contest. Chicago held a 4-0 lead at the halftime break, with Richey having recorded 22 saves in the opening 30 minutes.

Richey continued to shine in the second half as the Silver Knights continued to carry much of the play. For the game, Syracuse outshot the Soul 48-18, but Richey made a number of outstanding stops to record the first shutout in the MISL since March 4, 2011 when the Milwaukee Wave's Marcel Feenstra recorded 17 saves in a 21-0 win against the Omaha Vipers.

The Baltimore Blast and Missouri Comets each saw two players selected to the Team of the Week, with the Blast being represented by defender Mike Lookingland and forward Machel Millwood. Both players had standouts weeks as the Blast took three victories against the Rochester Lancers, with Lookingland's 10-point output being highlighted by a six-point night last Friday that saw him record a goal and four assists in a 23-12 win. Millwood, meanwhile, was a model of consistency, recording a pair of five-point games on his way to a 13-point week.

The Comets also saw a defender and forward selected, with Byron Alvarez leading the way after his second consecutive four-goal game led Missouri to a 24-11 win against the Wichita Wings on Sunday afternoon. Alvarez is now tied for the league-lead with 25 goals, trailing the Rochester Lancers' Doug Miller for the league lead in points by just two. Bryan Harris was also selected after the defender had a five-point game against the Wings, including an outstanding finish early in the third quarter that helped the Comets pull away for victory.

The Milwaukee Wave's Marcio Leite rounds out the team, with the midfielder playing the key role in the Wave's 13-10 comeback win against Syracuse on Saturday night. Leite had three assists, and what proved to be the game-winning goal as his 3-pointer midway through in the fourth quarter gave his side an 11-8 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

The 2012-13 MISL season continues on Thursday night as the Missouri Comets host the Milwaukee Wave at the Independence Events Center at 8:35 p.m. ET. Friday night then sees the Baltimore Blast visit the Chicago Soul at the Sears Centre Arena at 8:30 p.m. ET, with the Blast looking for revenge against the side that handed them their first defeat of the season just before the holiday break.

The weekend concludes on Saturday night, with three games on the slate. The Blast and Wave renew their rivalry at U.S. Cellular Arena at 5 p.m. ET as the teams continue their battle for first place in the standings. The Thruway Rivalry between the Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights then kicks off at 7 p.m. ET at the Blue Cross Arena before the Wichita Wings host the Missouri Comets at Hartman Arena at 8:35 p.m. ET to cap the night's action.
