Jersey G-Force News Release
Elizabeth, N.J. - The Ironbound Soul Soccer Club (3-2-3, 12 points) and Icon FC (6-1-3, 21 points) met at Williams Field on a rainy Saturday night in American Soccer League (ASL) action, with the two top New Jersey clubs battling for state-wide bragging rights. The Soul did create a handful of legitimate scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes of play, but visiting Icon FC was able to earn the lone tally of the match in the 68th minute to emerge victorious by a score of 1-0.
In the first half of this contest, the Soul appeared to get the better of possession and was a bit unlucky to arrive at the intermission without any goals to quantify their focused efforts.
The second half of play almost saw the hometown Soul get on the board immediately, with midfielder #21 Sebastian Orozsco acquiring possession on his offensive end of the pitch before turning upfield. He then worked himself into a situation with the opposing netminder that gave him enough space to slot a shot attempt towards the frame, but his ensuing strike was just wide of the mark.
In the 68th minute, a defensive infraction by the Soul created a free kick chance for Icon FC, which then resulted in the lone scoring notch for the visiting side.
Despite the deficit, the Soul did not let the Icon FC tally deter its determination to earn a result, and the Ironbound club embarked upon a resilient effort to find the equalizer. Collectively, the Soul found itself on the edge of leveling the count on a few occasions, but the final whistle would eventually blow before the New Jersey club was able to find the back of the net.
When the last tick of the clock elapsed, an unlucky Soul side found itself on the wrong end of a tightly contested 1-0 result.
