Jersey G-Force News Release

Midlothian, Va. - The competitive parity of the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) was on full display on Friday evening in Midlothian, Va., with the Philadelphia Force (1-6) earning its first win of the season by defeating the first-place Long Island Sound (5-2), 13-9. Hilary Bowen led the Philadelphia attack with four goals in the contest, while the Sound was paced by a pair of scores from Kelly McPartland.

Long Island jumped out to a 3-1 advantage early in this contest, only to see the Force catch fire and close out the first half with six consecutive goals. The Sound registered tallies off the sticks of Katrina Dowd, McPartland and Tatum Coffey, while Philadelphia saw two notches each from Kara Mupo, Bowen and Alyssa Murray. Additionally, Sarah Lloyd was able to put the ball into the back of the net as well, and the Force took a 7-3 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Halle Majorana struck first to make it 7-4, but Bowen and Lloyd responded for the Force to hang a 9-4 edge. Katie Rowan and Julie Gardner then swapped tallies before Leonard and Taryn Von Thof brought Long Island within three points, 10-7.

Following that two-notch run by the Sound, Lloyd and Mupo were able to respond with back-to-back scores to extend the Philadelphia advantage to 12-7. Hilary Fratzke and McPartland then put away two of the final three goals of the contest, but a Bowen split between them created a final 13-9 score line to give the Force its first victory of the season.

Both of these clubs will now play their final matches of the 2016 regular season on Saturday afternoon. First up, Philadelphia will meet the Boston Storm at 2:00 p.m., followed up by Long Island taking on the Baltimore Ride at 4:00 p.m.
