Chicago Soul FC News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI -- The Chicago Soul were hoping to avenge Friday night's loss, but instead, fell once again to the Milwaukee Wave. With four different players scoring, the Wave powered past the Soul 9-5 Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena, and set a franchise record after extending their winning streak to 12.

Milwaukee kicked off the scoring with the lone goal of the first quarter when Jonatan Santos shot one past Chicago's Nathan Sprenkel, who started in goal for the first time this season. The Wave doubled their lead in the second quarter when Ian Bennett fired a ball just shy of the 3-point arc, and the Soul trailed 4-0. Carlos Farias came up with a quick answer on the other end, cutting Milwaukee's lead to 4-2 before halftime.

The Wave extended their lead in the third quarter as Giuliano Oliviero managed to net the only goal of the period, and the Soul went into the fourth with a 6-2 deficit.

Milwaukee took charge again in the final quarter, seeing a 3-point goal from Hewerton on a restart opportunity to make it a 9-2 Wave advantage. However, Chicago responded minutes later on a restart opportunity of their own when Carlos Muñoz blasted the ball from 3-point range, and the Soul cut the Wave's lead to 9-5. With 3:45 remaining, Chicago pulled Farias in as a sixth attacker to add offensive power, but the Soul were unable to capitalize and dropped to the defending champions for fourth consecutive time.

"We had a lot of chances, but we just couldn't capitalize," said Soul Head Coach Novi Marojevic. "I thought we did a great job of creating shots and opportunities, but it's not just about creating; we have to learn how to put them away.

"We definitely have to win on Monday now in order to contend for playoffs. We have to forget what happened today and focus on our next game."

The Soul will try to turn things around on Monday when they take on the Wichita Wings on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. CT at the Sears Centre Arena. For ticket information, visit www.chicagosoulfc.com or call (224) 699-4110.
