
Soul add three to 2006 training camp roster

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul have signed AFL veteran lineman Cecil Caldwell and added OS Isaac West and DS Roosevelt Williams. As per club policy, terms of their deals were not disclosed. The Soul have also placed DS Brandon Williams on the exempt list after signing with the Atlanta Falcons and activated kicker Todd France to the training camp roster.
With the addition of these three players, the Soul's training camp roster is at 36 of the possible 37 spots available. Players will report to training camp beginning on Wednesday, January 4.
Caldwell (6'1", 285, South Carolina) enters his fourth season in the AFL in 2006. He began his AFL career with the Los Angeles Avengers in 2003 and was signed as a free agent in 2004 by the Orlando Predators. During the 2005 season, he was traded from the Predators to the Grand Rapids Rampage in Week 9. He finished the season tallying 11.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for losses. Prior to his AFL career, Caldwell spent time with the Cleveland Browns and the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe
West (5'11", 186, Furman) attended training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and was released during the final week before the 53-man roster was announced. The former Furman University standout finished his career as the Paladin's all-time receptions (140) and receiving yards (2,300) leader. West ranked third in the Southern Conference in punt returns with 16 attempts for 158 yards (9.9 avg.) He caught 16 touchdown passes in his collegiate career to rank fourth all-time in school history. West led the League with 18.2 yards per catch average.
Roosevelt Williams (6'1", 210, Tuskegee) joins the Soul after competing in training camp with the New York Jets. Prior to his stay with the Jets, he spent time with Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and the Denver Broncos. The Bears originally selected Williams in the third-round (72nd) of the 2002 NFL Draft. In his NFL career, he has played in 25 games and has made 20 total tackles, four pass breakups, recovered two fumbles and added four special team's stops.
France (6'3", 210, Toledo) originally signed with the Soul on November 21 after a spell with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2005 season. He was signed on November 29 to the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was elevated to the active roster on December 3. He finished the season playing in four games and connected on 7-of-9 field goals and was 6-of-6 on extra points.
Brandon Williams (6'0", 190, Michigan) was signed by the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL on December 6. He enters his second stint with the Falcons after being signed to Atlanta's active roster for the final two games of the 2003 season. Originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Denver Broncos out of Michigan, Williams spent the last eight weeks of the 2004 season on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad and had two stretches on the Broncos practice squad in 2003. The former University of Michigan standout played in 35 career games and recorded 74 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and nine pass break ups in college.
