Dallas Rattlers News Release
ROCHESTER, NY (June 10, 2015) In just 3 days the very best lacrosse players in the world will be hitting the field at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas to play in the Major League Lacrosse 2015 All-Star Game. Players from all 8 MLL teams were selected recently, and the Rochester Rattlers have some big names representing them this year, along with one very familiar face that will be heading up the coaching duties on the sidelines.
Jordan Wolf, Jordan MacIntosh, Jeremy Boltus, Mike Manley, Joel White and John Galloway are all listed as All Star selections. The name most familiar to fans in Western, NY however will be Rattlers Head Coach and Fairport native Tim Soudan. Soudan was named as a coach in the All Star game for making it to the 2014 MLL Championship game. Soudan and the Rattlers lost that game to BJ O'Hara's Denver Outlaws by one goal.
Soudan was a standout lacrosse player that has played in, and won at almost every level. He is a former member of the Rochester Knighthawks where he was a member of the 1997 championship team and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He played for Team USA in 2004 & 2008 and is a two time gold medal winner, and also played for the Rattlers from 2001-2003. Most notably he was named the 2014 MLL Coach of the Year for leading the Rattlers to the league's best regular season record of 10-4 and a spot in the title game.
Soudo, as most everyone knows him, remains a quiet and confident leader that always points the accolades towards others. He is known for stating that he is successful because of who he surrounds himself with, both players and coaches. He and the Rattlers have had to overcome some hurdles as it pertains to the roster at the outset of the season (several key members were not with the team for the first month). Now as the league hits the halfway mark and All Star break, Rochester is back in the thick of things and tied for second place.
The history of Rattlers' player transactions over the last two seasons alone show what kind of knowledge and ability he has in finding, accessing and acquiring talent. He got arguably the game's current best player in the '14 Collegiate Draft when he took Jordan Wolf (who is tops in the league in points). In that same day he picked up Miles Thompson, John LoCascio and Mark Cockerton, all of whom were big contributors to the Ratters success last season. Earlier this year, in need of an early season spark at the face-off position, he pulled off a sleeper trade for Mike Poppleton with Florida that garnered the ACC Offensive Player of the Year Kevin Rice, who now has 5 points in only his first two professional games.
With the amount of talent the Rattlers have hitting the field each weekend, Coach Soudan remains able to harness those players and make them believe in each other and maintain an "all for one, one for all" attitude. The locker room remains as family oriented this season as it did during the underdog campaign of 2014. The leader at the top has everything to do with it, even if he never likes to acknowledge it. He has the respect of his team and peers alike.
Soudan and the rest of the MLL All Star's will take the field on Saturday, June 13th at 7pm and the game will air on
CBS Sports Network. The weekend's events take place at BBVA Compass Stadium in downtown Houston, Texas.
