Soo Eagles Start 2015 with a Bang, Sweep Jr. Blues

The Soo Eagles traveled to Springfield, Illinois last weekend, and defeated the Jr. Blues in a pair of games, to strengthen their grip on second place in the North Division.

Soo Eagles 4, Springfield Jr. Blues 1 - Saturday, January 3, 2015

Jack Berry made 35 saves, to help the Soo Eagles to a weekend road sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues, thanks to a 4-1 win on Saturday night. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Will Gauthier and Mitch Vanderburg. The Jr. Blues cut the lead to 2-1 early in the 3rd period on a goal from Garrett Jenkins, but the Eagles would respond with two more goals from Denver Pierce and Drew Holcombe to make the final 4-1.

Soo Eagles 5, Springfield Jr. Blues 3 - Friday, January 2, 2015

Jack Berry made 39 saves, as the Soo Eagles picked up a big 5-3 road win, on Friday night, in Springfield. Mitch Vanderburg was the other star of the night for the Eagles, as the forward recorded a hat-trick. Trevor Cope scored in the 1st period and Chase Matson added an empty-net goal in the 3rd period. The Jr. Blues got goals from Tyler Funk, Jared Goudreau and Cameron Cooper. Cope ended up with five points on the night, factoring in on every Soo goal and Sandis Zolmanis had four assists.
