Sol sign Lyndsey Patterson
CARSON, CA - Thursday, June 25, 2009 - The Los Angeles Sol (Women's Professional Soccer), fresh off a 2-1 defeat of the Saint Louis Athletica and with a commanding lead in the league standings, have signed forward Lyndsey Patterson to a developmental contract and promoted McCall Zerboni to senior player, the club announced today. Per club and WPS policy, terms of Patterson's agreement were not disclosed.
The 26-year old Patterson, a three-time All-SEC selection with the University of Tennessee, finished her four-year career with the Lady Vols ranked seventh all-time in scoring (64 points), eighth in goals (20), and sixth in assists (24). She also led Tennessee to back-to-back SEC regular season titles in 2003 and 2004, in addition to SEC tournament crowns in 2002 and 2003.
Following her collegiate career, Patterson went on to play for both the Seattle Sounders and the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL W-League. She has also held coaching positions with the University of Tennessee's women's soccer program and the Embry-Riddle University women's soccer program.
"Lyndsey has a quick and clever attacking personality," General Manager Charlie Naimo said. "I can see her fitting in extremely well with our style of play."
Patterson joins a Los Angeles Sol team that already features three-time defending FIFA World Player of the Year Marta, U.S. National Team midfielder Shannon Boxx and WPS goal-scoring leader Camille Abily.
Zerboni, who was originally signed to a developmental contract, was selected by Los Angeles in the seventh round of the 2009 WPS Draft. The San Clemente native attended UCLA before turning professional and she has appeared in four games for the Sol this season. She fills the opening on the Sol's senior roster created when Greer Barnes was waived last week.
The Los Angeles Sol hosts the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, June 27 at 10 am at The Home Depot Center on the Campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills. For more information or to purchase tickets today, please call toll free at 1-877-4-SOL-TIX (476-5849) or visit www.LosAngelesSol.com
