SOCKERS AND BOLTS CLASH ON ALUMNI NIGHT

The old and new come together on Saturday night at the Del Mar Arena as the San Diego Sockers host the Anaheim Bolts on "Alumni Night". Off the field, the Sockers are welcoming back a number of the biggest names from the franchise's illustrious history to honor legendary head coach Ron Newman, who is making a special appearance in San Diego. Newman won ten indoor championships in eleven years with the Sockers. On the field, the Sockers take on their bitter rivals to the north for the third time this season, with each of the first two games having been within a goal in the fourth quarter.

SOCKERS PERFECT IN 2011 AND AT HOME

Nothing less than perfection could match the Sockers output in 2011, when the team went 18-0 while running their all-time mark at the Del Mar Arena to 28-0. San Diego hasn't lost since dropping a sudden-death overtime 9-8 decision to the now-defunct California Cougars on December 27th, 2010, winning 19 consecutive matches overall (dating back to a 12-29-10 US Open win vs. SD Fusion). The 18-0 mark in 2011 includes US Open and playoff wins, while the 28-0 home mark breaks down as follows: 19-0 in PASL regular season games, 2-0 in PASL playoff games, 5-0 in US Open matches and 2-0 in exhibition friendlies.

TWIN MVPs LEAD SOCKERS SCORING

The Sockers' offense has been dominated so far by the two PASL MVPs on retainer, Kraig Chiles ('10-'11) and Brian Farber ('08-'09). Chiles leads the PASL with 14 goals and 9 assists (23 points) in five games, while Farber ranks second on the Sockers in points (12) and goals (9).

BUSY MONTH OF JANUARY AHEAD

The Sockers are about to embark upon the busiest stretch of their schedule by far, playing eight games in 22 days, a run which begins against the Anaheim Bolts. After Saturday's game the Sockers will drive to Phoenix on Sunday morning for a 4:30pm contest against the Phoenix Monsoon, a game that can be heard live on 619Sports.Net. Next weekend the Sockers play back-to-back games in Tacoma, before taking on home-road and road-home back-to-backs in the following weekends against Turlock/Phoenix and Anaheim/Tijuana.

SOCKERS ADVANCE IN US OPEN

The back-to-back defending US Open champion Sockers beat Las Vegas Select 9-4 on December 27th, 2011 in their tourney opener for 2011-2012. Sunday's game against Phoenix will count as a "double", both as a PASL regular season game and a US Open Western quarterfinal.

OPPONENT'S PROFILE: Anaheim Bolts

SEASON: 3-3

vs. SOCKERS: 0-2

Last Meeting: SOCKERS 7, Bolts 6 (OT) 11/19

After an 0-2 start the Bolts have rallied to win three of their past four matches and they currently stand in the final playoff position on the Western Division table, one half-game ahead of Tijuana. Anaheim has fashioned a fourth quarter lead in each of their first two games against the Sockers only to eventually succumb to the champions. Enrique Tovar leads the Bolts with ten goals and ten assists (20 points). Former Sockers midfielder Paul Wright has two goals and three assists in five games.
