San Diego Sockers News Release

San Diego, CA - The San Diego Sockers dropped a 7-6 decision against the Milwaukee Wave in front of 2,004 raucous fans at the Valley View Casino.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the fourth quarter, the Sockers launched a ferocious come-back attempt with Victor Quiroz wearing the sixth-attacker jersey for the majority of the final 15 minutes.

Matt Clare riffled in a free kick 1:27 in but Bato Radoncic answered right back for the Wave just 30 seconds later.

Ray Reza then scored a tap in and Nick Perera finished off his own rebound off a feed from Kraig Chiles to give the Sockers hope.

Perera then turned provider for Evan McNeley and finished off a three-point night playing the ball for Chiles to finish at the back post and pull the Sockers back to within one with 4:51 seconds remaining.

Milwaukee was able to hang on and see out the victory.

The Wave used odd-man rushes to race out to a 3-1 halftime lead. Max Ferdinand cancelled out Eddie Velez's opener and then turned provider with a gorgeous pass from his own half for Ian Bennet to tap in at the back post.

Marcelo Fontana then latched onto a looping cross from Tenzin Rampa to score on another counter-attack.

Bennet would score his second on a power-play as Milwaukee went 3-4 on the evening. His third quarter strike was sandwiched by goals from Pablo Da Silva to open the second half scoring and Tony Walls finished off another power-play after Bennet played the ball into the box for the 25-year-old to finish with authority.

The Sockers took over in the fourth quarter and what seemed impossible almost came a reality, but it ended up being too little too late.

The Sockers drop to 7-5 on the season and will have 12 days to regroup before a home and home series with Soles De Sonora.

San Diego will be back at the Valley View Casino Center on January 17th to face-off against the Pacific Division leaders with kick-off set for 5:05pm PT.
