Sockers Chiles Repeats as PASL MVP
March 7, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release
The Professional Arena Soccer League today announced that Kraig Chiles of the San Diego Sockers has been named league Most Valuable Player for the 2011/12 season.
Chiles, who becomes the league's first repeat winner, was the runaway choice with eight votes out of a possible 14. Detroit's Costea Decu was second with two votes and four other players garnered a single vote each.
The credentials are hard to dismiss. Chiles set a PASL record with 46 goals and his 66 points were the second highest single season total in league history. He led the league in scoring by a 19 point margin despite missing one game with a strained MCL.
Chiles, who led the Sockers to a perfect 16-0 regular season, had a streak of 12 straight multi-goal games snapped on February 25. For the season he notched nine hat tricks including a then-record seven goals on November 26.
A graduate of Poway High, Chiles, 27, starred at San Diego State University. As an Aztec he started 59 straight games and tallied 22 goals in three seasons from 2006-2008. Kraig was a first-team All Pac-10 honoree his senior season, and upon graduation in 2008, was selected with the 9th overall pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Expansion Draft by Chivas USA. Chiles played five MLS games with Chivas, including two starts and one assist.
The PASL's Ron Newman Cup Championship Weekend will take place this Friday and Saturday at Del Mar Arena in San Diego. The Sockers and Detroit Waza will be joined by the Kansas Magic and Revolucion Tijuana in a final four format culminating in Saturday's Championship Game at 7:05pm.
