Soccer Bowl Trophy to Make Appearance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Published on October 28, 2016 under North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
NEW YORK - The North American Soccer League (NASL) postseason will hit the city of Indianapolis on Saturday, November 5, and leading up to Indy Eleven's historic home match, the league's championship hardware, the Soccer Bowl Trophy, will make an appearance at "Battle on the Bricks" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) on Tuesday.
With Indianapolis standing as the "Racing Capital of the World," the NASL and Indy Eleven have teamed up with IMS to host a soccer match that will take place at the famed Yard of Bricks. Participating in the match will be Indy Eleven players, drivers from the Verizon IndyCar Series, and Indianapolis Public School students.
Tuesday's event will see IMS leadership help Indy Eleven players and executives welcome The Championship, the NASL's four-team postseason tournament, to the Circle City for the first time. The Soccer Bowl Trophy, the prize awarded to the NASL champion since the start of the league's Golden Era in 1968, will make the trip to the famed Yard of Bricks at IMS to help kick off the sixth postseason in the league's Modern Era.
Second-seeded Indy Eleven will make its debut in The Championship in a semifinal-round contest next Saturday, November 5, when it hosts third-seeded FC Edmonton at 3 p.m. ET at Carroll Stadium.
