
Smokies take game one

Sevierville, TN- Tennessee starter Anthony Reyes (W, 7-2, 1-0) went seven innings allowing three hits while striking out eleven to lead the Smokies to a 10-3 win Wednesday Night. Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the best-of- five Eastern Division series.
Chattanooga struck the scoreboard first in the second. Jeff Bannon hit a single to score Jesse Gutierrez and give the lookouts a quick 1-0 lead.
Tennessee evened the score in the third thanks to an rbi double by Papo Bolivar off Chattanooga starter Steve Kelly (12-8, 0-1). Tennessee took the lead for good in the fifth on a two- run home run by second basemen Chad Ehrnsberger. The Smokies would also add a run in the seventh as pinch hitter Nate Espy connected for an rbi single.
Josh Axelson came in to pitch in the eighth and got touched for a two- run home run by Gutierrez. Josh Kinney would come in to the game with two outs in the inning and preserve the 4-3 lead.
The Smokies blew the game open in the ninth off the Lookouts' bullpen. Reid Gorecki led off the inning with a base hit that got past left fielder Tony Blanco. He would score on a Chris Duncan single to make the score 5-3. Milko Jaramillo then singled in Duncan to make it 6-3. Kinney would later single in two runs to make it an 8-3 game in just his second at-bat of the season. Skip Schumaker added a sacrifice fly making it 9-3 followed by a Bolivar rbi double to make the final margin of 10-3.
The playoff series continues Thursday Night at Smokies Park. Tennessee will send Brad Thompson (8-2, 2.36) to the hill against Rich Gardner (5-2, 2.56) of Chattanooga. First pitch is set for 7:15 pm.
