Texas Copperheads News Release

HOUSTON, TX - Quarterback Robert Kent threw for nine touchdowns and 283 yards to help Lubbock pull away 74-44 over Texas. Kent, who torched the Copperheads for 190 yards in his first game as a Renegade, hooked up with four Lubbock receivers for touchdowns, including his first three scores to former Copperheads player Chris Highshaw.

Highshaw, who had 123 receiving yards and three touchdowns on six catches in Lubbock's first meeting against Texas, ended the night with 47 yards but 18 points to show for it. Receiver John King also scored three touchdowns on 73 receiving yards.

A close game at the start of the second quarter quickly became a rout after the Renegades outscored Texas 44-16 in the second and third quarters.

Texas looked to gain momentum right out of the locker room in the third quarter, recovering an onsides kick and capitalizing over a number of Renegade penalties to get deep inside Lubbock territory.

But after a missed Texas field goal, Lubbock rolled off another two touchdowns in less than five minutes to pull ahead by 27 at the end of the third.

The Copperheads rattled off three consecutive touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including new addition Stanley Smith's second defensive touchdown on a fumble return. Kent, though, connected on the next play from scrimmage for a touchdown pass to squash Texas' momentum.
