KOKOMO, IND. - In a Prospects League contest that saw 17 runs and 26 hits produced by the Kokomo Jackrabbits and Quincy Gems, the visiting Gems left Kokomo Municipal Stadium with an 11-6 win Sunday, May 29.

Designated hitter Matt Owens launched a three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning rally by the Jackrabbits (1-3). The Chestnut Hill Community College player was one of three home team players tallying an RBI, as Kokomo native and Indiana University Southeast player Logan Barnes, coming off the bench to play second, and Kean University's Chris Amato, starting at shortstop, each added one.

"We've gotten into a rut of playing from behind," field manager Matt Howard said. "It'd be good to see us get out early on someone. I think it's coming (with this team), as they keep on fighting no matter what the score."

Starting pitcher and IU-South Bend player Trey Bickel, despite a four and two thirds inning run in which he surrendered five earned runs, did strike out four Quincy hitters as part of seven total Ks for the staff. Bickel's collegiate teammate, Austin Weaver, had a sparkling four and a third innings of bullpen work, giving up only one run on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Jackrabbits wrap up a stretch of five games in five days and the current Greatest Show On Turf promotion Monday, May 31, against the Chillicothe Paints. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
