
Slaughter Defeats Mayhem 74-60 in Chicago Saturday Night

(Cleveland, OH-April 12, 2009) In a game that invited fans of both teams to bring a calculator to the Sears Center Saturday night, the Chicago Slaughter maintained the best record in the Continental Indoor Football League with a wild 74-60 slugfest over the Marion Mayhem.
The Mayhem held a 20-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Slaughter took a 28-27 lead after a touchdown with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. It was a lead that the Slaughter would not relinquish for the remainder of the evening.
Chicago quarterback Russ Michna set a league record Saturday night with eight touchdown passes.
Quarterback Tavares Woodley had another strong evening for the Mayhem, as he went 15 for 27, good for 197 yards. Woodley passed for seven touchdowns.
Ian Schmidt led Marion in receptions with six, including three touchdown scores.
Even with the loss, the Mayhem maintained their Eastern Division lead with a record of 3-2. The Mayhem hold a one game lead over the Ft. Wayne Freedom, who lost on Friday night to the Wisconsin Wolfpack.
The win for the Slaughter kept their 2009 sheet clean at 5-0.
The Mayhem will be off this weekend, but will return to the field on Saturday, April 25th, when they will travel to the Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling to take on the Wildcats.
The Mayhem's next home game will be on Saturday night, May 2nd when the Miami Valley Silverbacks invade the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
