July 14, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham, WA - The popular website ProBasketballNews.com has announced its selections for the top minor league basketball players for the past year, and the Bellingham Slam's Caleb Gervin made the list, receiving an honorable mention selection. The selection places him among the top 30 players from all of the country's five minor basketball leagues.
Gervin led the Slam in scoring with 25 points per game in the regular season and 43 points per game in the playoffs. Gervin helped lead the Slam to the quarterfinals of the ABA playoffs with victories over the Tacoma Navigators and Pittsburgh Xplosion before falling to the San Jose Skyrockets in the opening round of the ABA's Great Eight championship tournament. Gervin is currently playing in the NBA Summer Pro League in Los Angeles.
In addition to his selection as a top minor leaguer, Gervin was named an ABA All-Star Game starter in February, and earned All-ABA First Team honors at the end of the season. Gervin was also a runner-up for the ABA's Player of the Year award, won by former Duke player Chris Carrawell.
Topping the list of top minor league basketball players is Anthony Goldwire, who led the Yakima Sun Kings to their fourth CBA championship last season.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
