Slammers Earn 2-1 Win Behind Strong Pitching

Joliet, IL- Behind a dominant pitching performance by Michael Carden the Slammers (21-25) were able to secure a 2-1 victory over the Frontier Greys (19-24) on Tuesday night.

The Greys opened up the scoring against Slammers starter Michael Carden in their half of the second. RF Jhiomar Veras and 3B Zach Turner singled. Veras scored from second on a CF Ben Lodge single to make it 1-0.

The Slammers evened things up in the bottom of the third inning. On a 0-2 county, C Jack Cleary was plunked on the left shoulder. With the hit-and-run on, 2B Max Casper bounced a ground ball through the right side of the infield for a single. CF Charlie White chopped a ball to second that Brandon Tierney misplayed. Cleary scored, tying the game at 1-1, while Casper was thrown out at third.

Joliet grabbed the lead in the sixth when Charlie White doubled with two outs and was driven in when 3B Mike Garza did the same to give the Slammers a 2-1 advantage.

Relief pitching would seal the deal for the Slammers. All Stars Kevin McNorton and Navery Moore pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings. Starter Michael Carden was our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game, tossing seven innings while giving up five hits and one earned run. He also struck out two and walked two.
