Bellingham Slam News Release
MODESTO, Calif. - Mike Parker recorded a monster double-double of 41 points and 22 rebounds as the Bellingham Slam breezed past the Big Valley Shockwave, 148-106, in an American Basketball Association contest at Modesto Junior College on Saturday night.
Parker led four Slam players with at least 20 points, helping Bellingham earn a sweep of the season series with Big Valley, four games to none.
Unlike Friday night's rout, the Shockwave were able to hang with the Slam through most of the first half. Big Valley trailed by just eight, at 55-47, with four minutes left in the second quarter, but Bellingham closed the half with a 15-4 run to establish a 19-point halftime lead at 70-51. Jared Stevenson knocked down four three-pointers during the decisive run and finished with 20 points in the game.
The third quarter saw Bellingham outscored Big Valley 42-20, to take complete control of the game. The Slam never led by fewer than 37 points in the fourth quarter.
Reserve center Matt Short narrowly missed the 20-point and double-double club with a strong 18 point, nine rebound performance.
Paco Hogans led five Shockwave players in double figures with 26 points.
The Slam are in the tail end of a coast-to-coast February road trip in which they are 2-3. The two wins against the Shockwave brings the Slam's conference-leading record to 20-9 on the season.
The Slam's next home action will take place on Monday, Feb. 26 against the Sacramento Heatwave, with a 7 p.m. tip-off scheduled for Whatcom Pavilion.
