Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam announced that the team has signed 6-9 forward Michael Jones from the University of Arkansas. Making the announcement was Slam GM Robert Hofstetter. Jones, 24, is the first new player signed by the Slam for the 2006-2007 season. The team had previously announced that it had re-signed four players from last season's squad that reached the quarterfinals of the ABA championship tournament.
Jones played five years for the University of Arkansas, red-shirting one season, completing his eligibility in 2005 and graduating with a degree in communications. In four seasons with the Razorbacks, Jones played in 101 games, starting ten. In his first game after being named a starter midway through his senior season, he pulled a groin muscle in the first minute of the game, missed five games and never fully recovered the rest of the season. Jones' career high for points is 18, coming three different times, including once in his freshman season against Alabama on Jan 30, 2002. He also grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds in that game.
"Jones is a very gifted athlete who is accustomed to playing at a high level in the SEC," commented Hofstetter. "With his size and versatility, he will add a lot of flexibility to the lineups the Slam can put on the floor. He is a proven scorer with good range, and he can also come inside and rebound if necessary. Off the court, Jones is a quality individual and is looking forward to becoming involved in the Bellingham community."
The Slam's first home game of the season will take place on Nov 16 against the Hollywood Fame. Season ticket packages are currently on sale for the Slam while single game tickets will go on sale Nov 1.
