June 28, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
Spokane, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam overcame exhaustion, dehydration and 120-degree court temperatures to place second in the elite division at the 2006 Hoopfest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Spokane, Washington on Sunday afternoon.
Slam players Brian Dennis, Michael Parker and Jacob and Jared Stevenson finished the two-day tournament with a 6-2 record, before falling 20-13 to a veteran team from Fresno, California in the final game. The Slam finished ahead of 62 other elite teams from Washington state and around the country. The championship game was televised live on KXLY-TV.
The Spokane Hoopfest started in 1990 and has quickly become the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world, with over 25,000 players participating on over 6,000 teams. The Spokane Hoopfest is a non-profit event, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics and youth sports programs.
In March, the Slam finished their inaugural season in the American Basketball Association with a record of 20-15, reaching the quarterfinals of the league championship tournament. The Slam will begin their second season in the ABA in November.
