Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - All-Star Mike Parker led all scorers with 34 points as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Gallup Outlaws in an exciting American Basketball Association game Tuesday night at Whatcom Pavilion.
Parker, voted by the Slam's fans to represent the team at the ABA All-Star Game this weekend in Halifax, Nova Scotia, helped the Slam to their sixth win against a ranked opponent this season. Going into Tuesday's game, Gallup was ranked 14th in the latest ABA rankings.
The Slam used stifling defense to hold Gallup to a 36-points at halftime, setting a new team mark for fewest points allowed in a half. Trailing 53-36 going into the third quarter, the two teams played evenly until Gallup was able to put together a 16-5 run to start the fourth quarter and trim their deficit to just six points.
But the Slam were able to regroup and put together a run of their own, outscoring Gallup 18-4 in the middle stages of the quarter, to put the game out of reach for the Outlaws.
Parker's 34 points led four Slam players in double figures. Brandon Hartley and Jacob Stevenson added 22 and 19 points, respectively.
Gallup was led by Mike Tabb's 24 points.
The Slam return to action following the All-Star Break as they welcome the Big Valley Shockwave on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
