Slam earn first round bye in ABA Playoffs

March 12, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam dropped one spot to eighth in the American Basketball Association's playoff power rankings released today, but still earned a first round bye in the ABA Playoffs beginning this week.

The top 24 teams in the ABA earn a chance to participate in the league's playoffs, with the teams ranked in the top eight earning a first round bye. The teams ranked ninth through 24 will take on each other in the first round, with the winners advancing to take on the top eight teams in the second round. Each round is single elimination and there are five total playoff rounds to determine the ABA's championship team.

The Slam (22-10) learned today that their playoff opponent in the second round will be either the Hollywood Fame or the Maywood Buzz, who are playing this week in the first round. The winner of that game will travel to Bellingham to take on the Slam on Saturday, March 17 at 5:00 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.

Tickets for Saturday's playoff game will go on sale Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Slam's offices at 1200 Lakeway Drive, via the telephone at (360) 734-SLAM or online at www.bellinghamslam.com. Ticket prices remain the same from the regular season: $20 for reserved courtside seats, $10 for adult general admission, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children.

Because of Bellingham's eighth-place seeding, it is unlikely the Slam would host a second home game for the remainder of the playoffs should they advance past the second round.

Last season, the Slam finished #12 in the ABA with a 18-14 record, and advanced to the quarterfinals after winning first and second round games against Tacoma and Pittsburgh, respectively.
