Skyrockets win every quarter, defeat Miners

MINOT, ND - The East Kentucky Miners couldn't carry momentum from Thursday night's thrilling 103-102 win over Minot into Friday's matchup with the American Conference frontrunner. Host Minot posted a convincing win over East Kentucky on its home floor at the Minot Municipal Auditorium Friday night, prevailing 104-92. The Skyrockets dominated in the quarter points category, blanking East Kentucky 7-0.

Minot (8-3) forced the Miners into committing 23 turnovers The Skyrockets recorded 14 steals and outrebounded East Kentucky 56-48.

Five different Minot players reached double figures in the scoring column.

John Strickland led the way for the Skyrockets. The Minot bigman hit for 21 points in the first half. Strickland finished with a game-high 30 points on a 13-of-20 shooting effort.

Ronnie Fields finished with 23 points for the Skyrockets. Kevin Rice and Kellen Miliner each had 15 points for Minot. Sidney Holmes turned in a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for the host Minot team. The Skyrockets led at the end of every quarter. Minot packed a 52-42 lead into halftime.

Josh Pace led the Miners (6-8) with a team-best 27 points. Pace was one of only two players to reach double figures scoring for visiting East Kentucky. Boo Jackson added 20 points for the Miners.

East Kentucky will host Minot Sunday (Dec. 16) in another American Conference matchup. Tip-off for the American Conference game at the East Kentucky Expo Center is set for 4:05 p.m.
