Skyhawks Set Final Roster
October 30, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release
OTTAWA - It's been almost a year since Mayor Jim Watson launched the National Basketball League of Canada's (NBL) Ottawa franchise with a ceremonial shot at the news conference, held at, what was then called, Scotiabank Place. As he wished the best for the new franchise, "I look forward to seeing the team come together and provide a great family-friendly entertainment option for basketball fans in Ottawa". After an intense and vigorous training camp, that day has come, as the Ottawa SkyHawks announce their roster for their inaugural season of 2013-14.
The team is led by head coach Kevin Keathley, who's "a leader with a winning record at the professional level bringing with him a culture of excellence, enthusiasm and energy" said Technical Director, Merrick Palmer. "Coach Keathley acquired top level athletes and put together a dynamic team that hopes to win championships" added Co-Owner and President Gus Takkale.
Making history, Canada's growing generation of NBL players will be the ones that can push the country to unprecedented basketball heights. "Making cuts is never an easy process; we had a group of very talented men which made the decision process very difficult, in the end sometimes it comes down to a numbers game" says Coach Keathley.
The SkyHawks went on the road last week to play two exhibition games on Thursday October 25 and Friday October 26. As they played together for the first time, they got a taste of the competition ahead and a good feel for their roles on the court. The result - two wins back-to-back!
The roster was chosen by Head Coach Kevin Keathley, along with Assistant Coach Jafeth Maseruka, Team Assistant Ryan Takkale, Technical Director Merrick Palmer and Co-Owner and President Gus Takkale.
"We saw tremendous talent and athleticism in this process and it was a challenge to select, Coach K and I have had some sleepless nights" said Co-owner Gus Takkale. "We're all excited for the potential of this team, and can't wait to get on the court Saturday November 2nd for our home opener."
The SkyHawks roster is comprised of 12 players:
- Jerice Crouch #3
- Fred Sturdivant #4
- Jermaine Johnson #5
- Tirrell Baines #7
- Jamie Vanderbeken #12
- Jamal Crook #14
- Justin Tubbs #15
- Mike Rose #20
- Demetrius Jemison #22
- Manock Lual #25
- Eric Kiby #32
- Ryan Anderson #44
