
Skyhawks Keeping Busy In The Off-Season

Augusta, NJ - The Skyhawks have not slowed down as the cold months close in on Skylands Park. Besides hosting Vernon Vikings Football, baseball has remained a hot topic as the roster grows for the 2008 Season with the addition of LHP Derrick Van Dusen, 1B Vic Davilla, INF Mike Torres and return OF Alex Frazier.
Derrick Van Dusen was claimed off waivers from the Coastal Bend Aviators. Drafted by the Mariners in the 5^th round in 2000 he spent the next five years in affiliated baseball with a combined record of 50-32 and an average 3.80 ERA.
Mike Torres also joins the Skyhawks from the 2007 North Shore Spirit bragging sixth in league batting average (.326), fifth in league RBIs (63) and third in league hits (114). Torres has a career batting average of .287.
The Sussex Skyhawks acquired Alex Frazier from the Bridgeport Bluefish to complete an earlier trade. As a member of the Skyhawks, Frazier had a .299 batting average and 45 RBIs.
The Skyhawks have now added seven players since the off-season began including RHP Dennis Robinson, RHP Gary Galves, RHP Matt Bishop and OF Chad Gabriel from the North Shore Spirit. Other transactions of the Skyhawks consist of trading C Chris Crescenzi to the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League to complete an April 27^th trade.
In other news the Sussex Skyhawks continue conduct interviews to fill the Field Manager's position, which should be finalized within the next couple of weeks. "As much as we would like to fill the manager position right away, said General Manager Ben Wittkowski, we need to make sure we find the proper person that will put a winning team on the field, as well as make this community proud of the Skyhawks."
