Sky Blue FC Statement on NWSL Cancellation of Preseason Matches

Howell, N.J. - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) today announced the cancellation of all 2020 preseason matches due to COVID-19.

National Women's Soccer League Commissioner Lisa Baird released the following statement on Thursday, March 12, 2020, regarding the 2020 Season:

"After receiving guidance from local and state authorities and medical personnel, and with the support of the Board of Directors, the National Women's Soccer League is canceling the 2020 pre-season match schedule in the wake of the most recent developments surrounding COVID-19. Our priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our players, coaches, staff, and fans. We are reviewing all contingency plans related to our regular season schedule and are monitoring developing events and their potential impact. We are deeply appreciative of our fans and partners for their continued support of our league and all our world-class players."

In support of this decision and in an effort to keep our fans, staff, players and community safe, Sky Blue FC will be suspending the following preseason events, including the scheduled preseason trip to North Carolina that was to take place from March 31 - April 6:

Wednesday, March 18 - Cloud 9 Members Only event

Saturday, March 28 - Sky Blue FC Season Ticket Member Open Training

Wednesday, April 1 - Sky Blue FC vs. University of North Carolina

Saturday, April 4 - Sky Blue FC vs. University of Virginia

Sunday, April 5 - Sky Blue FC vs. North Carolina Courage

Sky Blue will continue to work with and follow the guidance of the NWSL and local and state health officials to help protect the well-being of players and staff during the suspension. We will keep our fans updated as more information becomes available.
