Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Friday, Oct. 23, 2015) - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has re-signed midfielder Nikki Stanton for the 2016 season. Concurrently, the team made it official that Stanton will be playing on loan for Perth Glory of the Australia W-League during the NWSL offseason.
Stanton began her playing career with Sky Blue FC in 2014 on its reserve team before being called up to the full side, making four appearances. After heading overseas last offseason to play for French club, ETG Ambilly Féminin FC, Stanton made three starts over nine appearances for Sky Blue FC during her 2015 NWSL campaign.
"Nikki really emerged when she joined our reserve team in 2014 and earned herself a professional contract," said assistant coach Christy Holly, who witnessed the progression of Stanton first-hand during her time with Sky Blue FC. "She is the type of player who is always looking to do something extra when it comes to her development. She has continued to improve since originally joining our reserve team in 2014 and is now a key part of our full roster. The move to Australia will be very beneficial in Nikki's development, and we look forward to seeing how much she has grown when we open up our preseason camp in 2016."
Stanton will be playing alongside some familiar faces on Perth Glory, with Sky Blue FC teammates Caitlin Foord and Sam Kerr also being key members of the Australian club. Perth was victorious in a 2-1 result over Melbourne Victory last weekend in its first match of the W-League season, with both Foord and Kerr registering goals to provide the final score line.
The 2015-16 Australia W-League season will conclude in January, therefore Stanton will return prior to the start of the 2016 NWSL preseason.
