
Sky Blue FC Agrees to Mutual Release with Head Coach Jim Gabarra

Morristown, N.J. (Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015) - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) officially announced today that it has reached a mutual agreement with Technical Director and Head Coach Jim Gabarra to release him from his contract with the team. Concurrently, Gabarra has come to terms with the Washington Spirit and will be their new General Manager and Head Coach.
"We would like to thank Jim Gabarra for his years of service to Sky Blue FC," said Tony Novo, President & General Manager. "Jim was always a first-class representative of our club, and we know he will carry that tradition with him back to Washington. We want to wish him all the best in this new chapter of his career."
A native of the region, Gabarra began coaching the Washington Freedom in 2001 and remained with the club for 10 years. He then made the move to Sky Blue FC in 2011 and coached the team over the past four professional seasons, leading the New Jersey side to the NWSL Playoffs in 2013.
Assistants Christy Holly and Takayoshi Ishihara will be returning to Sky Blue FC in 2016. Holly has been named the Assistant to the General Manager, and the Ireland native will be charged with player personnel responsibilities. Coaching roles continue to be evaluated, and an announcement regarding the coaching staff will be made at a future date.
