Skoggard Stars in RiverHawks' 6-1 Rout of Ice Bears

March 18, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta RiverHawks' goaltender Peter Skoggard made 38 saves to backstop his team to their eighth straight victory Friday night at the James Brown Arena, winning 6-1 in front of a boisterous home crowd.

The win ties the RiverHawks' own mark as the longest winning streak in the SPHL this season. It continues a torrid pace the team has been on of late, as they have now won 16 of their past 19 games.

Skoggard continued his impressive play since being acquired by the RiverHawks, winning his fifth game in as many starts.

The scoring was started by the RiverHawks' Captain Matt Auffrey late in the first period. He took a nice feed from line-mate Branden Kosolofsky and ripped a snap shot into the top corner of the net.

The RiverHawks would explode in the second period with four goals spread amongst four different players. Kosolofsky, Jim Gehring, Lucas Labelle, and Joe Tolles would all tally to put the game out of the reach of the Ice Bears.

Jason Dolgy would score the RiverHawks before former RiverHawk Jason Weeks would ruin Peter Skoggard's shut-out bid with a goal just 32 seconds before the end of the game.

Despite the win the RiverHawks remain six points back of the Mississippi Surge who also won Friday night.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Saturday, March 19th as they face the Huntsville Havoc. The RiverHawks will be wearing special St. Patrick's Day jerseys presented by the Vision Discovery Institute at the Georgia Health Sciences University. There will be a game worn jersey auction immediately following the game, with proceeds going to the Vision Discovery Institute. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
