Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that centers Peder Skinner and Gino Guyer have each agreed to terms on contracts for the 2008-09 season.

"Peder and Gino were among our most consistent players on a nightly basis last season, and it was no question that I wanted to see them both back in a RoadRunners uniform," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church.

Church continued, "We're happy with how our club is coming together and look forward to a spirited and competitive training camp in October."

Skinner, 22, was selected as a 2008 ECHL All-Star and tallied 23 goals and 54 points in 72 games as a rookie last season. The Isle-aux-Morts, Newfoundland native finished third on the RoadRunners in scoring and 19th overall among ECHL first-year players.

Skinner turned pro after recording a career-high 29 goals and 70 points in 2006-07 with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League. He signed with Kingston in November, 2005 after leaving Michigan State University midway through his sophomore season. Skinner registered totals of 100 goals, 148 assists, and 248 points in 252 career junior and collegiate games.

Guyer, 24, ranked second among RoadRunners' rookies in scoring behind Skinner and fifth on the club in 2007-08 with 14 goals and 42 points in 58 games. The Coleraine, Minn. native was acquired in a trade from Alaska on Dec. 14, 2007 in exchange for defenseman Dave Pszenyczny and totaled 13 goals, 26 assists, and 39 points in only 49 games with the RoadRunners. He appeared in just eight games during the 2006-07 season with the Aces and Texas Wildcatters after suffering a season-ending injury in December.

Guyer served as team captain at the University of Minnesota in 2005-06 and led the Golden Gophers to their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. He was a member of the 2005-06 All-WCHA All Academic Team and the recipient of the Elwin "Doc" Romnes Leadership and Sportsmanship Award and the Donald M. Clark Community Service Award. Guyer tallied 40 goals, 67 assists, and 107 points in 169 career collegiate games and was a member of the 2002-03 Minnesota squad that captured the NCAA Division I National Championship.

Guyer also logged four games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League at the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.

Skinner and Guyer bring the total number of players under contract for the 2008-09 season to six. They join forwards Mitch Carefoot, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, and Chris Stevens.

Phoenix will play a two-game pre-season series against the Florida Everblades Oct. 10-11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners open their fourth ECHL season Oct. 17 when they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series.
