SIU to host Illini at Rent One Park

MARION, Ill. - College baseball will take center stage at Rent One Park on Tuesday, April 1, when the Southern Illinois Salukis face the Illinois Fighting Illini at 6 p.m. Gates will open at 5 p.m., and full concessions will be available at the stadium. Tickets will be available at the Rent One Park box office on the day of the game only. All tickets are $3 with general admission seating on the lower level.
This will be SIU's second appearance at Rent One Park. The Salukis played a doubleheader against Northern Illinois at the ballpark in Marion, Ill. on March 1. The April 1 game will be the first one U of I plays at the one-year-old facility.
"We're excited that the Miners have extended the invitation to us," SIU Head Coach Dan Callahan said. "As much as we like paying at Abe Martin Field, playing a night game and playing under the lights, it's something new, and it's something exciting."
Former SIU and U of I head baseball coach Richard "Itchy" Jones will be at the game to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Jones led SIU to three College World Series appearances in 21 seasons with the Salukis and went on to coach Illinois for 15 years. He retired in 2005, ranked 13th on the all-time NCAA Division I wins list.
