Sims Strikes out 11 as Bats Shut out Clippers, 7-0

Columbus, Ohio. - The Louisville Bats (33-53) defeated the Columbus Clippers (52-33) by a 7-0 score at Huntington Park. Louisville only allowed Columbus to get two hits, getting 11 of their own.

Christian Colon hit a double in the top of the first to score Narciso Crook from first to put the Bats on the board first. Louisville added to their lead in the second when Crook hit an RBI single and then Colon and Brian O'Grady hit back to back home runs to put the Bats up 6-0.

The score remained until the seventh inning when Nick Longhi hit an RBI double scoring Colon from second putting the Bats up 7-0. Colon and Crook both went 3-for-5 in the game, Colon getting only a triple away from the cycle while Crook had three singles.

With the win Louisville tied a season-high three-game winning streak winning five of their last six games.

Lucas Sims (5-0, 4.74) got the win for the Bats pitching 7.0 innings only allowing one hit, two walks, and handing out 11 strikeouts. They were Sims' second most strikeouts of the season only being two away from the 13 strikeouts he got on April 20 against Indianapolis. Eric Stout finished the game pitching 2.0 innings giving up one hit, two walks, and striking out three.

The loss went to Mitch Talbot (2-1, 6.59) who started the game for the Clippers and pitched 5.0 innings giving up six runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out five.

Louisville stays in Columbus to continue the four-game series against Columbus with first pitch at Huntington Park set for 7:15 p.m. Friday. It's a righty-righty matchup with Vladumir Gutierrez (2-6, 7.03) set to pitch for the Bats and Shao-Ching Chiang (5-5, 4.99) set to pitch for the Clippers.
