Simmons Makes His Way Back to Park City

(Bridgeport, Conn. - Feb. 10, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of outfielder James Simmons. Simmons makes his way back to Bridgeport for his third season with the Bluefish and ninth of professional baseball.
"James is a very special talent," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He's been one of the best outfielders in the league and is also an asset with his bat. We're excited to have him back."
Simmons started last year with Monclova of the Mexican League, batting .267 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI in 55 games. The outfielder finished the season with the Bluefish, appearing in 89 games and hitting .263 with six home runs and 35 RBI.
The 28-year-old made his Atlantic League debut in 2012 with the 'Fish following a brief stint with independent Washington of the Frontier League (five games). In 93 contests, the outfielder slugged 13 home runs, knocked in 45 runs, stole 12 bases, and scored 47 runs while collecting a .283 batting average.
The Texas-native was originally drafted by San Francisco in the 24th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He has reached as high as the Triple-A level last year and his best professional season came in 2010 with Single-A San Jose of the California League. Simmons batted .252 with 12 home runs and 19 stolen bases and posted career-highs with 80 hits, 56 runs scored, and 47 RBI. In 758 career games, he owns a .251 batting average with 72 home runs, 386 runs scored, 310 RBI, and 117 stolen bases.
