The Atlanta Silverbacks will receive the Puerto Rico Islanders at DeKalb Memorial - James Hallford Stadium this Sunday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m. The night will also feature the fourth annual Silverbacks Latino Night, with music, food, prizes and fun for the whole family.
Atlanta (6 wins - 3 draws - 9 losses, 21 points) are currently in sixth place, the last playoff spot in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division standings. The red-and-black return home after a two-game road trip that saw them defeat the Islanders 4-2 Friday night but drop a 2-1 decision to the Toronto Lynx on Wednesday. The Silverbacks will be looking to add to league-scoring leader Fabian Dawkins' 10 goals. The Jamaican international has teamed with countryman Gary Brooks and Chilean Rodrigo RÃos, who are second in the league with four assists. The defense has also just added Major League Soccer and European veteran Alex Yi.
Puerto Rico (5-4-7, 19 points) is only two spots behind Atlanta in the league table, but has played two less matches. The Islanders play the Charleston Battery on Friday night and a victory will put them just above the apes in the coveted sixth spot. The white-and-blue are led by Head Coach Hugo Maradona and recently named former Atlanta resident Jorge Alvial as Sporting Director. Team goals leader Brazilian Mauricio Salles and USL veterans Corey Woolfolk and Petter Vilegas are the team standouts.
The Silverbacks Latino Night will be the club's annual festival to celebrate Atlanta's vibrant and growing Hispanic community. Traditional mariachis and modern beats will liven things up and the event will feature great prizes, including $100 in free gasoline from RaceTrac, a $50 Kroger gift card and a trip for two, including airfare and hotel to the Grand Casino in Gulfport, Mississippi courtesy of Ceasar's Entertainment. Lucky Silverbacks fans will also receive a $25 gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods and tickets to Six Flags and White Water.
