Silverbacks Aim to Finish Season on High Note

Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
The first training session under interim head coach Alejandro Pombo was naturally sharp and intense. It's almost a given whenever a coaching change is made that players want to show the new coach why they should be playing, or maybe even scared they could be on the out.
For Pombo, the session was just what he expected from a group of players he's been around all season.
"I'm fortunate to have played this sport as a professional for many years. I'm Uruguayan, and so my passion for soccer is absolute, and that's what I want to have displayed on the field," Pombo told AtlantaSilverbacksFC.com Tuesday. "I'm a person who some say is nice - at training - but I'm very intense when it comes to working hard. I'll work so that the players are on the same page with me. From there, we'll go out to get results."
Midfielder and acting captain Blair Gavin took a leader's approach when assessing the club's decision to make a coaching change following a six-game losing streak. The Silverbacks announced Sunday that Jason Smith has been relieved of his head coaching duties. The club also announced that Alejandro Pombo will be the Interim Head Coach.
The 2014 season is nearing the end, with four matches remaining, including three at home on Oct. 11, Oct. 18, and Oct. 25.
