Silverados release 2007-08 CBA inaugural season schedule
August 31, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The RGV Silverados will open up their 2007-08 CBA inaugural season on Saturday, November 17th vs the Oklahoma Cavalry. The Cavalry will be in their first season in the Continental Basketball Association as well. Oklahoma will be coached by former NBA player Michael Ray Richardson. Richardson led the Albany Patroons to the Eastern Conference Championship last season and to the CBA Finals. The Cavalry and Silverados are prime contenders to the CBA Championship in their first seasons of competition in the CBA, which is quite unusual in professional basketball
The first big test comes for the Silverados during its first home stand of the season by hosting Back to Back CBA Champions, the Yakama Sun Kings. The Sun Kings won the Western Conference to the CBA last season with a regular season record of 35-13 and cruised in the playoffs. The Sun Kings swept Albany in the CBA Finals 3-0 to win their fourth CBA Championship last March.
After a three game home stand to open the 2007-08 CBA season, the Silverados embark on their longest road trip of the season, which will carry them to nine opponent's homecourts between November 23rd and December 9th. The Silverados will return to the friendly confines of their home arena the McAllen Convention Center on December 12th as they host the Atlanta Krunk. The Krunk are coached by former NBA star Kenny Anderson.
"We are excited about the upcoming season in every way! We knew coming into the CBA that it would be a challenge! Challenges motivate me and having a tough schedule will do just that. We have to just play the games on the schedule and understand that this is all a process towards getting us where we want to be. You have to always remember in basketball that it is a marathon and not a sprint!" stated RGV Silverados head coach Steve Tucker.
The CBA will be tipping off its 62nd season in November. The CBA served as the NBA's development league for many years and over 600 NBA Players and over 50 NBA coaches once played or coached in the CBA. The history of the CBA dates back to 1946 to today. The Continental Basketball Association is regarded as the premiere professional basketball league in the USA outside of the NBA.
