
Silver Stars waive Hicks and Oha

SAN ANTONIO â San Antonio Silver Stars Chief Operating Officer Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil announced today that the Silver Stars have waived Jessie Hicks and Ugo Oha. At the same time the Silver Stars announced the arrivals of Marie Ferdinand and Shannon Johnson
Hicks, a six-year WNBA veteran, spent the 2004 season with the Silver Stars. She played in 27 games, averaging 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game. For her career, she has played in 169 games, averaging 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.7 minutes per game.
Oha, a 6'4" center, played in one preseason game with the Silver Stars finishing with two points in three minutes of action vs. Los Angeles on May 6. Last season she played in two preseason games with the Connecticut Sun before being waived prior to the start of the season.
Ferdinand recently completed her season in Turkey where she played for Fenerbache. She helped lead the Turkish squad to the FIBA Europe Cup Championship game and to the Turkish Women's League Championship game. In Europe Cup action, she averaged 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Johnson just completed her season in Poland where she played for Wisla Can-Pack Krakow in the FIBA EuroLeague and the Polish Women's League. Johnson helped lead Krakow to the EuroLeague playoffs in their first year of competition, averaging 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. In Polish League play, she guided Krakow to the finals before eventually losing to Polish League powerhouse Lotos VBW Clima Gdynia.
The Silver Stars roster currently stands at 19 players. Sixteen players are currently in camp (Lindsey Yamaskai is out with a torn right Achilles tendon) while three are finishing out their seasons overseas or fulfilling their national team obligations.
The Silver Stars are currently getting ready for the 2005 season with training camp taking place at the Antioch Sports Complex and Community Center. San Antonio will host the Chinese National Team in a closed scrimmage at the Sports Complex on May 14. The Silver Stars open the 2005 regular season at the SBC Center on Saturday, May 21 when they host Sheryl Swoopes and the Houston Comets at 7:00 p.m.
Fans can tune in and listen to all of the team's 2005 WNBA games on Clear Channel radio stations KSJL 92.5 FM/810 AM and the Ticket 760 AM with Andrew Monaco calling the action.
