San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Silver Stars Chief Operating Officer Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil announced today that the Silver Stars have waived forwards Carrie Bacon, Katie Cronin and Kym Hope. At the same time the Silver Stars welcomed Bernadette Ngoyisa and Mfon Udoka to training camp.

The moves trim the Silver Stars roster to 24. The Silver Stars currently have 15 players in training camp, while nine players on the training camp roster are still competing overseas. San Antonio must trim their roster to 15 by May 3, and final roster cut-downs must be made on May 20. Players competing overseas do not count against the number of players a team can have in training camp or on its roster.

Ngoyisa, a 6'4" center, spent the offseason playing in Italy for Ribera in the Italian Serie A1 League and the FIBA Europe Cup. In the Italian League, she appeared in 30 games, averaging 18.4 points (second in the league) and 11.0 rebounds (second in the league) in 34.4 minutes per game. She led the league in offensive rebounding, grabbing 4.1 rebounds per game and field goal percentage, shooting 63.4 percent (222-350) from the field.

Udoka, a 6'0" forward, spent the offseason playing in Russia for Dynamo Novosibirk in the Russian Superleague and FIBA Europe Cup. In Superleague play, Udoka played in 13 games, averaging 9.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In Europe Cup action, she appeared in three games, averaging 12.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.

Bacon and Cronin were both signed as free agents by the Silver Stars on April 14. Prior to joining the Silver Stars they both played a large part in helping lead the Colorado Chill to the 2005 NWBL Championship.

Hope joined the Silver Stars a free agent on April 4. This was the second year in a row that she was invited to Silver Stars training camp. In 2000, she appeared in three WNBA games with the Utah Starzz.

The Silver Stars are currently getting ready for the 2005 season with training camp taking place at the Antioch Sports Complex and Community Center. The team will make its SBC Center debut when it hosts 2004 WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks on May 6, in preseason action. The Silver Stars open the 2005 regular season at the SBC Center on Saturday, May 21 when they host Sheryl Swoopes and the Houston Comets at 7:00 p.m.
