Silver Stars Sign Veteran Johnson

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Silver Stars Head Coach and General Manager Dan Hughes announced today that the team has signed former New York Liberty guard/forward Vickie Johnson to a free-agent contract. Per team policy terms of the deal have not been released.

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Vickie's résumé joining the Silver Stars," Hughes said. "She has been a remarkably consistent performer throughout her career and we're thrilled to add her veteran leadership to the team."

Johnson joins the Silver Stars after spending her first nine WNBA seasons with the Liberty where she averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 31.7 minutes per game. She leaves New York as the Liberty's all-time leader in points, rebounds, games played, minutes played, field goals made and attempted, and free throws made and attempted. Johnson helped guide New York to the playoffs six times and to the WNBA Finals on four occasions. She has played in all 43 of the Liberty's playoff games, averaging 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.09 steals in 33.0 minutes per game.

A two-time All-Star, Johnson is one of only nine players remaining in the WNBA since the league's inception in 1996. She is the WNBA's all-time leader in games played (282) and minutes played (8,950). She ranks sixth all-time in total assists (787) and ninth all-time in points scored (3,246) while also ranking in the top 20 in numerous other statistical categories. For her career she started in 281 of the 282 games she has played in and has missed only six of a possible 288 games.
