San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Silver Stars have signed eight-year WNBA veteran Cathrine Kraayeveld, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced today. Kraayeveld brings San Antonio's active player roster to 10 under the WNBA Roster Hardship Exception, due to the injuries to forward Sophia Young and guard Becky Hammon.

A 6-3 forward, Kraayeveld was originally selected by the Silver Stars in the third round (27th overall) of the 2005 WNBA Draft out of the University of Oregon. She played her first five WNBA seasons with the New York Liberty, alongside Hammon, now Silver Stars assistant coach Vickie Johnson and forward Shameka Christon. Kraayeveld played in 187 career games for the Liberty, averaging 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest, including a career-high 10.8 points per game during the 2007 season.

Kraayeveld joined the Chicago Sky prior to the 2010 season as part of a three-team trade and spent two seasons with the team, averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game through 67 games. She played with the Atlanta Dream last season, averaging 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game through 33 games.

The WNBA Roster Hardship Exception allows a team an exception to the 11 player roster limit, affording them the opportunity to carry 10 active players. Kraayeveld is the third replacement player of the season for the Silver Stars, who previously added forward Chante Black and guard Julie Wojta. Both Black and Wojta were waived on July 6.

Kraayeveld will be available for the Silver Stars tonight as they host the Washington Mystics at the AT&T Center at 7 p.m. The contest is a The Beat 98.5 $1 Drink Night presented by Silver Eagle. Lower level seats for all Silver Stars home games are available now starting at $11. For more information about individual game tickets and season ticket plans, contact a Silver Stars representative at 210-444-5090 or visit SASilverStars.com. The game will also be broadcast live on Fox Sports Southwest with the voice of the Silver Stars, Andrew Monaco on the call and Dan Weiss providing commentary.
