Silver Stars Davellyn Whyte Sidelined with Partially Torn Achilles Tendon

SAN ANTONIO (September 4, 2013) - The San Antonio Silver Stars today announced that guard Davellyn Whyte suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon in her left foot in last Friday's game at Tulsa and will miss the remainder of the 2013 season. The team has also announced that it has signed guard Chelsea Hopkins as a replacement player. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced.

Whyte, drafted by the Silver Stars with the 16th overall pick in the second round of the 2013 WNBA Draft, averaged 4.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 14.5 minutes in 29 games this season for San Antonio.

Prior to her injury, Whyte started the previous four games in place of injured teammate Danielle Robinson where she averaged 9.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 26.8 minutes.

Hopkins, 5-8, played collegiately for San Diego State University from 2011-13 and for Duke University from 2008-10. As a senior she was named honorable mention All-American by the WBCA after helping the Aztecs to a school record 27 victories and their second straight Mountain West Conference regular season championship. Hopkins was also an All-Mountain West first team honoree, all-defensive team member and all-tournament selection after averaging 13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.2 steals in her final season.
